being a teacher is nowadays a challenge according to a lot of people. today the big strike in the netherlands has to lead to more teachers, less pressure and stress and a better payment. of course it is a challenge being a teacher, but i think it is also a blessing. being trusted with the education of other people means someone trusts you to be able to teach them something, something they can use later on in their lives. two years ago, i was still being educated in teaching and met my first failure in education. that is the hard part, not being able to handle every student and class. for a lot of teachers, these failures and the time pressure are the reasons to search for another job, no longer in education. teachers are different and not every student or class fits. like all people teachers also keep learning from live, from science, from books, from other teachers, from news items and from their students. so maybe the students you weren't able to teach previously, will be a

rembrandt can be your teacher in painting, 350 years after he died. ing bank made six tutorials spoken by rembrandt (old dutch and his voice resembling his real voice, based on the physics known from his self portraits). the tutorials are only subtitled in modern dutch, so if you are not familiar with the dutch language, you will have to be satisfied with the images. it is brilliant of ing to do such a thing. the tutorials are inspiring and bring us back in time, when live was not so impatient. we learn about the many layers necessary to use to establish the effect that rembrandt did. he paints the way live works: we have to have patience, let things set for a while, renew our view, try a new layer, build, rebuild, change en rebuild again. Bron: uitgeverij Zwijsen het vervolg op koning van katoren, het boek dat de meesten wel kennen. in 2007 schreef terlouw het vervolg over katoren veertig jaar later. briljant verzonnen, al die steden waarin een maatschappelijke eigenschap is uitvergroot. het laat ons zien hoe absurd we vaak denken en doen als we eens even van een afstandje alles zouden kunnen bekijken. voor dat op een afstandje bekijken heeft terlouw koss opgevoerd, een geitenherder die zo snel mogelijk met school gestopt is. terlouw heeft in zijn vertrouwde stijl geschreven van duidelijke korte zinnen. heerlijk om te lezen voor kinderen. het einde komt alleen te snel. we zijn nog lang niet klaar met het boek. hoe zat het nu met die verloren zoon en hoe ging het verder met el ende. natuurlijk is dat ook het leuke aan boeken, dat ze geen afgesloten einde hebben, maar in dit geval bleef ik er toch wakker van liggen van spijt. er zat vast nog een mooi verhaal achter, dat ik nu moet missen. want een vervolg is er niet gekom
